Jocelyn’s musical journey began in 3rd grade on the Hammond Organ. She studied with Mrs. Paulson and the local church organist and by 6th grade was playing Easter services on the pipe organ at the Lutheran Church. In 4th grade, she began her studies on the clarinet and added alto sax to the mix in high school so she could participate in the high school jazz band. Flute studies began shortly after the sax so that her “doubling chops” were solid. Her clarinet skills led to a scholarship at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. While studying clarinet, sax, flute, bassoon, and piano at the college level, Jocelyn played the Bari Sax in the touring Jazz Ensemble at NIU under the direction of Ron Modell. She had the pleasure of touring worldwide with Phil Wilson, James Moody, John Faddis, and Louis Bellson just to name a few.
Jocelyn’s teaching experience ranges from private students on Harp, Voice, Woodwinds, organ and piano, facilitating a Kindermusik Early childhood Music studio, and graduating from Yamaha’s Music School intense training for piano/organ instructors. Additionally, she has taught Kindergarten, directed a successful children’s handbell choir, and was a principal of a preschool and academy.
